By region, China took an unequaled position by capturing 57.9% of market share. China’s current growth momentum has been driven by BYD who accomplished a vertical integration through which it manufactures in-house battery as well as its own electric vehicles. Since it started to concentrate on making new energy vehicles and securing price competitiveness through vertical integration, BYD stopped the production of internal combustion engine vehicles. As a result of shifting its focus to EVs, BYD sold approx. 1.925 million units of new energy vehicles in China this year alone. Given the total number of new energy vehicles sold in China this year to be 5.599 million units, it can be said that, among 3 new energy vehicles sold, one should be vehicle made by BYD. According to local news, the net profit of BYD in Q3 recorded 10.413 billion yuan (approx. 1.93 trillion won). The news reported that it was first time for BYD to have its net profit in a quarter exceed 10 billion yuan. When it comes to the growth of European market, the favorable sales of Volkswagen and Stellantis group have been a driving factor in growth. The North American market registered a higher growth compared to China and Europe based on overwhelmingly high sales performance by Tesla.
